Happy 13 District Tour kick-off day!!
Welcome, my potential future tributes. I’m Michelle and I’ll be your hostess here in District One. I offer to you some of our high-end luxury items — but, please, do keep that a secret, I’d prefer President Snow not relegate me to the life of an Avox.
As your guide today I’ll be talking to you about who could have been the winner of The 74th Annual Hunger Games. I mean really, tthat silly little girl Katniss with all her heart and soul shouldn’t have beat my lovely Career tributes. Don’t even get me started about her faithful true love Peeta. Two? TWO winners?
Pffft.
So, who should have been top contenders for ultimate prize of life? I’ll tell you who!
Cato
Beefcake reigns supreme y’all!
Part of the Career group of tributes this hefty dude had some serious hatred going on. More than that, the boy had the hardcore brute strength to back it up. Let’s not even discuss the fact that he had venom enough to spew at all the tributes and then some. The boy should have had a death grip on this game. Alas, despite pointing his destructive and unrestrained nature at anyone and anything that was going to get in the way of his winning AND maintaining a bloody reign over the game, the poor boy fell short.
Surprisingly, however, he was wise in managing his alliances and showed genuine caring for his District-mate when she fell at the hands of Thresh. How he lost is completely beyond me.
Thresh
Be still my beating heart, the boy has a heart to go along with his killing nature! I’m not sure I understand how it’s possible that he didn’t walk away from The Arena to the cheers and adulation of the Capitol crowd.
Isolation and strategy was the name of the game for this District 11 tribute. Why? Because when he chose to avoid alliances his single solitary self removed the potential for invasive manipulation. Add in the fact that he always had a plan (for the most part) and he should have been the golden boy. Already fearsome and widely respected for his strength (both physical and mental) he should have maintained a total command of The Games to the bitter end.
Then….yes then…. you add in his occasional demonstration of loyalty and kindness and voila a winner.
Rue
Who doesn’t love an underdog?
Not me, that’s for sure. I knew from the jump that I was going to love the bird-like girl who could float undetected through the trees. It was like she had her very own set of wings. Heck, she should have been able to soar right down into that winner’s circle.
If only it weren’t for that pesky stabbing Marvel inflicted. Damn him!
Anywho, her advantages were quite abundant. With stealth-like movement, small stature, youngest in age, and general good naturedness District 11′s little sweetheart should have made it to the end on those qualities alone. Add in to the mix her fierce protector Thresh and a rock solid alliance with Katniss and the girl was in it to win it with very few problems.
There were any number of other tributes who had either the physical strength or mental capacity to be the winner of The Games. Some even had both, in abundance I might add. But, in the end it was our fair Katniss and Peeta that prevailed.

But what if they hadn’t? Who would you choose?

Rebecca:
I believe Thresh could have won. He was clever enough to isolate himself from all the other tributes. He probably would have made it if he had not killed Clover and provoked Cato’s revenge.
I still believe Foxface could have won too. She kept herself away from harm the whole time. All she had to was wait for the other tributes kill one another.

Samantha:
In an alternate ending, I would like to see Rue as the winner of the 74th Hunger Games. However, not sure how the revolution would start without Katniss. Can’t wait to read Mockingjay … mentally willing the days to be the 24th. All I got for my wishful thinking is a headache.

Walter Jackson:
it was sad when Rue died, but i was glad when Katniss took revenge and put flowers on her, that was one of the coolest parts in the book. i am sooo excited to read mockingjay! i cant wait!

Rue all the way!!
August 2, 2010 at 12:24 pm
Emily:
Katniss and Peeta were meant to win, I mean, look at what they’ve been through!!!!
August 2, 2010 at 12:37 pm
ssheiny:
I’d like to say Rue, but I think Thresh was the most clever. I still want to know how Cato beat him…

Literate Housewife:
*hidden text* Go Peeta! */hidden text* This is a hard question. I loved Rue and Thresh was really interesting. I really can’t decide.
August 2, 2010 at 12:47 pm
Staci:
I’d like to say that rue could of won this she had the heart and was a challenge because she was so small and could hide in the trees very well.
August 2, 2010 at 12:47 pm
Kait:
I believe “Foxface” should have won. With her solitude and no aliances, she had no one to worry about but herself. Add the fact that she was sneaky and elusive, you have a grade A winner.
August 2, 2010 at 12:59 pm
Smash Attack:
I think Foxface had a good chance. She was very close, but not skilled or intelligent enough in wilderness survival…
Thanks for participating in this awesome tour and giveaway!

I think Rue could of win, But foxface 2. Poor Rue….. why she died! I cryed when she died
August 2, 2010 at 1:02 pm
Bree:
Rue or Thresh definantly.
August 2, 2010 at 1:10 pm
Taylor:
I honestly think that Rue, Thresh, or even Foxface could have won. They were all great tributes. I also cried when Rue died, I loved her. TEAM PEETA(:
August 2, 2010 at 1:16 pm
meatballhead:
I would have liked to see Rue win. The tributes from the poorer districts are known for being at a disadvantage, so it is amazing to see that they are capable with the skills to win despite their upbringing in hunger amongst other difficulties.
August 2, 2010 at 1:30 pm
Ava:
Aww, sucks to live in Canada now
I loved Rue, I would have loved to see her win. Thresh was great too. I never particularly liked the ‘undying love’ setup that Peeta and Katniss had going on, but it certainly helped them to the end! Rue forever, still~
August 2, 2010 at 1:36 pm
Dorothy:
I think Rue could have one I cried when she was killed but glad Katniss got revenge and covered Rue in flowers.
August 2, 2010 at 1:47 pm
carlos:
Well its really difficult! you know i think that Thresh because the book says that he is stronger than the others well no with that words but i think that! and he survived by himself, and to me i think FoxFace migth be the winner! she had the same strategy of Thresh they worked by themselves and they were really close to win!
August 2, 2010 at 1:49 pm
Ana:
Rue rocks. If it wasnt for the idiot that killed her she could have waited the others out steal their food wait until they starve.
August 2, 2010 at 1:54 pm
lulilut:
Foxface is my choice because she played a smart game.
Rue broke my heart!
August 2, 2010 at 2:10 pm
Akif:
Blows that only U.S. residents can participate in the competition. Aren’t we in Europe fans enough?
August 2, 2010 at 2:13 pm
Mel:
I know right!
August 2, 2010 at 2:14 pm
Mel:
OMG! I was in tears when Rue died and at least Katniss covered her up with flowers and sung her to sleep!!! I mean you’ve got to cut Katniss some slack, she’s the one who went up to protect her sister, and she’s been the one taking care of her family and her father died in a mine explosion! 1. Katniss 2. Rue I think they should’ve been the winners. I’m not to big on Peeta, and it hurts to think about how Gale feels about all this.
August 2, 2010 at 2:14 pm
Colleen:
In reality, Cato probably. But as a romantic, I would have liked to have seen Rue won. She would have made a valant effort, but once she was head to head with one of the careers, she’d be in trouble.
August 2, 2010 at 2:14 pm
Phacelia:
We all love Rue, I know, but I believe that Thresh should have won. If I could have written the Hunger Games (nobody would read it if I did!) Cato would have been struck down by Thresh and he would have helped Katniss. Afterwards Peeta would get jealous and kill Thresh, and Katniss would kill Peeta and be the victor. After that Katniss would go to District Twelve and stay with Gale until she is at least twenty, then get married.
Happily for you, I’m not Suzanne Collins.
August 2, 2010 at 2:29 pm
Vasilly:
I really thought that Tresh might last all the way until the end. *sigh*
I can’t believe you’re on Team Peeta! (Team Gale forever!)
August 2, 2010 at 2:31 pm
Melissa:
If Katniss and Peeta couldn’t win, I would definitely want Rue to win. She was so sweet, it would have been nice to see her survive.
August 2, 2010 at 2:39 pm
Gabby:
I think Thresh or Rue could have won definetely!I was so emotional when Katniss put the flowers on rues body and then district eleven gave her bread!:)*tears*
August 2, 2010 at 2:41 pm
Alanna:
Loved the book as well and I can’t wait for Mockingjay. I personally think that Rue would have been unlikely to win if it came down to her and Cato. I think Foxface had a good chance of winning until Peeta “out foxed” her.
And just FYI, I am a Canadian citizen and offended that I can’t enter to win this awesome prize! District 2- CHANGE THE RULES!!! Canadian citizens should have the right to participate too, it’s not fair we’re left out of everything!
August 2, 2010 at 2:50 pm
Candace:
I really liked Rue. She may have won if she wasn’t so desperate for a friendship of sorts. She could hide and escape capture really well. Foxface was definitely headed for the win too. I think anyone who acts as rashly at Cato is headed for failure.
August 2, 2010 at 3:03 pm
Alissie:
I would have liked to see Rue, but realistically, I can’t see her killing Thresh or Cato. She would have had to get down from her flight for Thresh, and though he would have hesitated, so would she.
Thresh is an old favourite of mine. Who /knows/ what he was doing the whole time, but the point is, he did what he had to to survive. Still and all, he followed what Peeta said on the roof to Katniss. He finished the Games and stayed himself in the process. He showed mercy to Katniss because she was the one who gave such a lovely memorial for Rue. He kept his humanity…
…which is more than I can say for Cato, the human Mutt. Not too fond of him, not at all.
Then there’s Foxface, but she was all cleverness. That’s not enough to win. Her fatal move was stealing the berries, which was the problem with her plan. Quick, but not observant. Not enough…. logic, I’ll say.
Poor Glimmer. RIP. =D

awesome giveaway! thanks I can’t wait to read Mockingjay!
August 2, 2010 at 3:49 pm
Alex:
I dont care who won, but i’m glad the gamemakers didn’t. I hated their move at the end of making all the tributes into wolves.
August 2, 2010 at 4:16 pm
Cole:
who here thinks Katniss will see that Gales a jerk and truly fall in love with Peeta?
August 2, 2010 at 4:21 pm
Cole:
when will the winner be announced?
August 2, 2010 at 4:25 pm
Katia:
In my mind, i played that Katniss shielded Rue from the spear but in turn she died. As painful as it was, Rue had to leave Katniss’s body and run from the district 1 tribute. If this did happen then maybe it could have Rue and Thresh working together but when it came down to the two of them, Thresh would let her win. But maybe they thought, because it or even he meant so to Katniss, they let Peeta win for her district
August 2, 2010 at 4:26 pm
Misty:
Oh, holy moly!
(I think any number of them could have won. If it wasn’t going to be Katniss/Peeta, though, I was rooting for Rue; but honestly, I think Foxface could have taken it.)
August 2, 2010 at 4:42 pm
Peach:
i was so sad when katniss found out that Peeta was with the careers, i mean, come on, HOW could he do that to her. and then later in the book we find out everything, but at that point in time, i really hated him!! i all about sobbed when rue died, because part of me wanted her to win, but by the time i read the THG, CF was already out so i kind of new that katniss had to win. i am soooo exited about mockingjay. it makes me want to cry because something that we all love and have bonded over and spent countless nights reading, is going to come to an end,(do i sound like a sappy love story or what?!)

i think rue had a good chance to win. she might have if she didnt pair off with katniss.
August 2, 2010 at 5:03 pm
Madison Morris:
I was really sad when Rue died, i remember when it happened. I was in class and i COULD NOT cry there. lol. But personally I think Katniss should have won because she was just the better person and just deserved it.

Opps, I accidentally sent int my name twice. Hehe. Sorry. Anyways I like the idea of Katniss and Peeta winning the games, it’s what I wanted, but if it hadn’t been them, I would have loved to see Rue win. That would’ve been spectacular!!
August 2, 2010 at 6:02 pm
Pixie:
Awesome Giveaway. Thanks
My pick to win would have been Thresh.

Totally Foxface – she was too crafty to lose!
August 2, 2010 at 7:43 pm
Helena:
When Rue died I seriously considered ripping up the book right then and there. She is probaly the character I really cared for and loved of course right next to Katniss. But I still can’t bring myself to wish the Hunger Games went any other way because now Katniss has such a strong reason for truly hating the Capital. Then again Rue was so young! Katniss is the true winner all the way. *Team Can’t Bring Myself to Choose*

QuoteGirl:
I was secretly holding out for Marvel to win. I loved that guy.
All kidding aside, I kind of like the idea of Foxface as the victor. She was easily the most intelligent and craftiest of them all, and I admired her. I am not aware of her killing anyone (bonus points!) and she seemed like a nice enough girl. If you don’t mind someone that you probably can’t trust with any secrets.
I was hoping Katniss and Peeta would win because she’s our main character, our narrator, our guide. She was the only tribute that we really knew. Rue was adorable and sweet and made us tear up, but we didn’t have that connection like we did with Katniss. It would have been a shame for her journey to be cut short.

Jenna Knutson:
I think that Rue should have won the 74th Hunger Games. When she died, I couldn’t believe it, I was in a state of shock. Even though she was the underdog, it oddly made sense for her to win. She could easily hide herself from everyone else, if she hadn’t fallen into Marvel’s trap, she wouldn’t have died. I wanted her to win because it wouldn’t have been suspected; the Capitol would’ve been in shock.
Although, I still wanted Katniss to win because she was the only tribute that we actually knew. We didn’t know anything about any of the other tributes, besides Peeta. It just wouldn’t have been quite right without Katniss in the series.

Barbara:
I think Thresh would have won due to the fact that he was in tune with his surroundings. Not only did he use the arena to his advantage (the fields), he realized that in reality, the only person could could trust was himself and maybe Rue. However, I think Thresh forced himself to isolation because he didn’t want to face the possible idea of himself killing Rue. Either way, it was smart of him to isolate himself and use the arena well. Plus, he was also fit, healthy, strong, well-fed, etc. (he was even like this near the end of the games, when everyone was in times of desperation and weakness!)

I think Rue or foxface could have won it though I wouldnt coount thresh out!
