Good morning my friends! Today’s the day….October’s round of Dewey’s 24-Hour Read-a-Thon is upon us.
This is my fourth (4!) go round and as usual I’ll be flying by the seat of my pants today. Mood reading (thanks @melaniegoodman for the perfect descriptor) as it were — picking up whatever book strikes my fancy at the time.
One of my primary goals for this this Read-a-Thon will be to make it a fun and relaxed day. its one of the only days that I read exactly what I want at the time and feel no pressure about review obligations. I tend to be a backlist babe during #readathon and I adore it! I can already tell you that I’ll be reading at a slower pace and will likely spend more time cheering others on this round but if I only read one book today I’m one book ahead!
Here’s how things traditionally work in these parts:
- Blog Updates - I’ll be posting to my blog regularly, but it won’t be in individual hourly posts. I don’t want to spam your feed readers so if you want to keep track of my progress bookmark this post cause this is where I’ll be divulging all my Read-a-Thon secrets.
- Books - I didn’t choose a stack of books for the occasion, as is the case with most of my blogging practices as mentioned I’m going fly by the seat of my pants. Because I’m a slow reader and want to feel a sense of accomplishment, I’ll most likely be reading short, quick books. This time around I’m not going to post book thoughts here. Instead I’ll do status updating on my Goodreads page so feel free to hop over if you’re interested in hearing me ramble about what I’m reading.
- Break Time - Lupus (and as of yesterday fibromyalgia *sigh*) = fatigue, which then = illness. My body will tell me when it needs a break and I’ll be listening. So if I go silent for awhile I’m probably off in ZZZZ-land.
- Socializing – I feel like a big part of this event is the social aspect so I’ll do my best to be out and about cheering people on *but* since the main event is about reading it may not be at my usual levels. You might see me around some mini-challenges
- Post Format – I’m going to post using the format I used for all previous readathons. A format that I originally poached from Gail of Ticket to Anywhere. Thanks Gail!
I’ve already got my second load of laundry in, I’ve cleaned the kitchen and I’ve stocked up on snacks that are less than healthy. In a matter of moments, I’ll be fluffing my pillows and plopping down on the couch to get my Read-a-Thon on! Please do check back now and again to see how I’m doing, I’ll be prompting everyone with my progress on Twitter. Good luck to all the readers, a great big helping of thanks to all the cheerleaders and giant kudos to the organizers! Let the games begin….

I remain jealous of your delicious snack options. Will be curious to hear your thoughts on Dairy Queen. It’s in my TBR pile, too, but not sure that it’s one I’ll make it to today.

My goal today is to read 5 chapters of boring nursing text books–(19 due by Thursday!) It comprises about 100 pages but I can only do about 10-15 in one sitting before I start to go cross-eyed. How I’d love a full day to just read novels! Enjoy and good luck hitting your goals!

Well, how’d you do? I got thru all 5 chapters plus rolled out a kick-butt careplan for my clinical patient…that only took 3 hours. Oy. I really wanted a bubble bath and some fiction reading but I think I’d fall asleep in the tub.
