hprclogoA new month is upon us challengers!

As we get closer and closer towards the finish line I’m so pleased to see all of you enjoying your reading of this series.  Congratulations on being so successful.

Here’s our friend Mr. Linky. When you post a review, discussion, or anything at all having to do with the HPRC make sure you hop on over here and submit it so all the challengers can visit and partake of your awesomeness.

It’s that time of year again.  From Friday to Sunday of this weekend Natasha from Maw Books Blog is holding the second round of Bloggiesta!

Say hi to Pedro everyone!

<<waves>>

In case my excitement didn’t clue you in, this is an awesome event!  You know, one where gobs of bloggers get together to work on those long needed and sometimes procrastinated tasks.  The kind of awesome event that provides a time for us to focus on things like book reviews, rainy day posts, feed reader and category/tag clean up plus all sorts of other improvement type stuff.

I had such fun the first time around it never crossed my mind not to participate for round two.  So here I am writing up my kick-off post!  I’m a little late to the game but hey better that than not at all right?

So, last time I created a great big list of all the things I wanted to do.  This time I’m going to fly by the seat of my pants and be a bit more vague.  I do have loads of book reviews to write, I have multiple blogs to design graphics and write posts for, and I’d like to finally get my book review archive started at the very least.

As you can see I’ve got plenty to keep me occupado for the fabulousness!  I’ll be updating this post throughout the weekend to show my progress so feel free to check back in and see how I’m doing.

So at the end of this post I’ll be kicking off my weekend long Bloggiesta.

Ready….Set….Go

hprclogoHappy New Year Challengers!

We’re halfway through the challenge now and so many of you are making fabulous progress.  Keep up the great work. :)

Here’s our friend Mr. Linky. When you post a review, discussion, or anything at all having to do with the HPRC make sure you hop on over here and submit it so all the challengers can visit!

I hope you all had a happy new year!  Best wishes for 2010!

Man Twitter is a dangerous place isn’t it?

Today I was chatting with Amanda of The Zen Leaf and Rebecca of Lost in Books about a fitness challenge that Amanda had been doing.  What is this challenge you ask?  Well for a change it’s not about reading, this challenge is about fitness.  Now, I’d actually already heard of this challenge through both Beth Beth Fish Reads and Dawn of She is Too Fond of Books as they are either participating or plan to.  So without further ado, this post stands as my official kick off/sign up post for the 100 Mile Fitness Challenge.

As I’ve mentioned before I have lupus and my rheumatologist has really been pushing me to be more active but because of my special circumstances I have to do so in a low impact way. What makes me so excited about this challenge (outside of the support from fellow book bloggers participating) is that yoga will be able to be counted towards the overall tally.   15 minutes of activity a day counts as a mile so if I get into the regimen my doctor has outlined then I should hopefully be able to get fit and strengthen my immune system.

The challenge runs from January 1st to March 31st and asks that participants “travel” 100 miles total over that time.  I’ll be tracking my progress here on the blog so you can see how I’m doing (or not, haha).  Oh and if you’re interested in joining up check out the link above. It looks like a great way to make a healthy choice.

Update #1 – January 10, 2010

So, I’m off to a bad start.  Week one brought with it diagnosis of a hideous sinus infection, and unexpected death in the family, and  an inability to overcome my tremendous ability to procrastinate.  I did, however, make the effort to go to Best Buy and purchase a Wii and WiiFit Plus. Sadly, they were out of stock of the latter so I’ll have to go the online route which means it’ll be a few days until I actually get it. So all this to say that I did ZERO miles this week. But hope to make up for it by doubling up on miles in the weeks to come.  Today I’m going to pull out the sheets my physical therapist gave me that demonstrate my stretching exercises.  That should give me a good 15 minutes of exercise a day until I get the WiiFit.

categories : Challenges

finishlineThere has been a lot of chat about what challenges readers are going to undertake in the new year.  Recently I went through the listings at A Novel Challenge to formulate my own game plan for 2010.  This is what I have so far but it’s subject to change because I know there are always new one’s popping up. At any rate here is my current list:

100+ Reading Challenge

1010 Category Challenge

Christy Awards Reading Challenge

Cybils Award Challenge

Debut Author Challenge

Debutante Ball Reading Challenge

Read and Review Challenge

TBR Challenge

That’s How I Blog: 20 Minute Book Club Challenge

TwentyTen Challenge

What’s In a Name

Young Adult Reading Challenge

Now, I think it’s important for people to know that my goal with any challenge is to treat it more as a guideline than a rule.  I’m not in it to “win” it (though if I do fabulous!) I do them, in part, so that I can join in on some fun community building aspects of blogging.  I want to be able to gab with people about book lists and fun things related to the challenges.

As part of this, starting in January, I’ll start recording where a book fits into my challenges as part of my review.  It’s inconsequential to readers but it will help me organize and maybe encourage others to join in on challenges or talk about what books they are using for the same one.  I’ll also be updating my challenge progress on my specially dedicated challenge page so I don’t continually spam readers who may not be interested.  But if you are interested in watching how I’m doing feel free to check in there often!

Good luck on your challenges everyone who’s joining in :)
